Gold Coast’s most rapidly expanding suburb is Pimpama in city’s north
The Gold Coast’s Northern Chamber of Commerce secretary Gary Mays says the idea of Pimpama being developed to such an extent would have been unimaginable five years ago.
“I’ve been living here for 28 years and I’m still amazed to be seeing a McDonald’s,” he says.
“Pimpama has always been farmland with barely a corner store to be seen. The growth we’re seeing now is explosive.”
The new Yawalpah Road McDonalds seemingly popped up overnight and is right opposite Pimpama Junction Shopping centre.
Gary says there are houses being built in Pimpama every day. “There’s still quite a bit of land available compared to the rest of the Gold Coast, where there is only room for infill housing,” he says. “I can’t see the affordability of Pimpama disappearing any time soon. A combination of investors and young families are largely buying into the residential areas.”

With impressive infrastructure taking off and a new school being built in the neighbouring suburb of Coomera, Pimpama is expected to continue to grow. “I think Pimpama could easily be bigger than Helensvale at the rate it’s going,” Gary says.
While public transport is yet to catch up with the growth, there are two train stations either side of the suburb — one in Coomera and another in Ormeau. There are several developments on the go in Pimpama including Sunland’s The Heights Residences and Mirvac’s Gainsborough Greens. For the complete Gold Coast Bulletin article published May 8th

City infrastructure in the Gold Coast’s booming northern corridor is failing to keep up with the explosion of new estates as figures reveal Pimpama is home to two of Australia’s most popular estates.
The area’s popularity is backed up by figures from the Housing Industry Association, which estimates $318 million worth of building approvals in the area in 2015/16, a 147 per cent increase on the previous year.
According to the Queensland Government, Pimpama’s population is projected to grow from 6033 this year to 10,688 by 2021.
Pimpama councillor and deputy mayor Donna Gates said infrastructure was struggling to keep up with the area’s population growth and rapid expansion.
She said budget constraints meant the area will continue to lag behind.
“The projected housing growth according to 2014 ABS data for 2021 was 5119 houses but it has reached 5700 and with an additional 4000 plus dwellings coming, we are way beyond what was predicted,” Cr Gates said.
“There is significant growth on both the east and west side with several thousand homes being delivered and it is a constant battle to afford infrastructure to keep up with growth but it will be done, slowly but surely.”
Cr Gates said the suburb’s annual population growth was 17 per cent compared to 1.3 per cent for Queensland. For the complete Gold Coast Bulletin article published May 7th
